What's wrong with this picture?

I just learned that this Wednesday, New York’s Empire State Building will light up red and yellow to commemorate the 60th anniversary of COMMUNIST CHINA.
Am I the only one seeing Red here?
O_O
No one calls it Red China or Communist China any more.
Back in the early seventies, when Taiwan or the Republic of China was our friend and trading partner, my mom somehow managed to buy a straw sun hat (the kind women wear when gardening) which had a startling sticker inside it: "Made in the People's Republic of China". This was just a few months after Nixon's China trip. Our whole family was amazed — and appalled — that she had somehow been able to buy something made in Red China, by slave labor probably.
Now everything is made in China (just "China," mind you). Tiananmen Square has been forgotten. Kids today don't know about Tank Man. What a world.
This is a joke, right?
