Pumped Up For the Coming Great Depression!

This, my friends, is an expression of the state Western culture is in now. I’m not sure how we’re gonna be able to handle soup lines, if it comes to that, which it might. So . . .

Watch. Laugh. Weep. Then laugh some more. And then weep. Then laugh some more.

I’m seriously thinking of beginning to grow some potatoes and, maybe raising a few chickens. Now if only I can keep my house (dh just lost his job and I’m out of work until my broken arm heals.)

  2. Karen Williams says:

Looking on the short term bright side: We can count on big brother to provide for a beer fund stimulus package to lull us into complacency.

  3. M.E. says:

Not only demographic winter, as Matt K mentioned above, but real winter, in the sense of global cooling. Read up about the dearth of sun spots in this sun cycle so far, and how that correlates with mini ice-ages. Human beings thrive when global climate is slightly warmer; hard times come when things cool off a bit. Think shorter growing seasons, poor crops, higher heating costs in winter, etc. These last two winters have been terrible; I think we should expect these to be the norm for the next several decades.

So, yes, between that, the economy, and the political disaster that’s about to unfold, to paraphrase Bette Davis: “Fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.”

  4. Patrick Madrid says:

When it comes to the collapsing economy, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, so this time I decided to laugh. There may be nothing to laugh about in another year or two.

  5. Gabriel Bernal says:

People we need to pray fervently and trust in GOD. The financial news is very devastating.

  6. James says:

Its going to get so ugly. The crap you pants parts will come if a major Western European Country declares bankruptcy and its government begins to fall. (ie Germany or England).

On the plus side, I like soup, but I hate lines. fr. z had a great potato leek soup on his blog. its really easy to make with things you can grow yourself (except butter… better buy a cow…) hehe… (i hope i’m joking… we will see)

Not funny I am afraid. I just looked on CNN before I saw your post. Worst job losses in 34 years.

I don’t see us as being done.
This is going to get ugly I am afraid.

  8. Mary Rose says:

Was the Heineken commercial the laughing part and the photo of the line the weeping? I’ve thought about The Great Depression, often. But I do wonder if a repeat will produce the same result. Will we come out on the other side as a sturdy crop of Americans who will rebuild this country into a rock-solid leader in the not-so-free world? I wonder.

And now, Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in thee. (Ps. 39:7)

  9. LarryD says:

Or, as the soup Nazi would say, “No zzzoup for you!!”

  10. Patrick Madrid says:

Sure, Matt. Go ahead. But you’re busted to the back of the soup line, man.

  11. Matt K says:

An already bad economy paired up with the coming demographic winter…should make for a fun few decades.

Can I stay in the ‘laugh’ stage just a little longer?
