PRESS RELEASE:

Catholic Author and TV Personality to Speak
at St. Miscellaneous Parish, Nov. 14

YOUR CITY (DATE) — Best-selling author and EWTN television host Patrick Madrid will visit St. Miscellaneous Catholic Church in (CITY) on Nov. 14 to present a seminar on the biblical and historical foundations of the Catholic Faith.

The seminar, entitled ("SEMINAR TOPIC"), is billed as "an informative presentation aimed at showing how the Bible, current events, and the facts of Christian history can answer common questions and challenges to the Catholic Church, its teachings, and practices."

The event will begin at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Admission is free.

"Apologetics" is a term in Catholic theology which refers to the process of explaining the Catholic Faith and answering questions and objections in a charitable and respectful way.

Catholics regard verses such as 1 Peter 3:15-16 and Jude 3 as  biblical exhortations to engage in apologetics discussions with non-Catholics.

After an intermission for refreshments and a book signing by Mr. Madrid, who will have many of his books, DVDs, and CDs available, a lively question-and-answer session with extended audience participation will follow the presentation.

Apologetics has been present in the Catholic Church since the days of the New Testament. Some prominent Catholic apologists include St. Paul, Augustine of Hippo, Thomas Aquinas, Francis de Sales, and John Henry Newman. The field of Catholic apologetics and evangelization has experienced a strong resurgence, especially among lay Catholics in the United States, in the last decade.

Patrick Madrid edits the award-winning Envoy magazine (envoymagazine.com), a print and online Catholic journal of apologetics and evangelization. He is is the author of twelve books on Catholic themes including, Pope Fiction, Search and Rescue, Does the Bible Really Say That? and the multi-volume Surprised by Truth series, with a combined total of 400,000 copies in print.

Mr. Madrid earned a bachelor of science degree in business management, has done advanced studies in theology at the University of Dallas, and is completing a master's degree in theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. He and his wife Nancy have eleven children.

In addition to his work as an author, Madrid is the host of four EWTN television and radio series: “Pope Fiction,” “The Truth About Scripture and Tradition,” "Where Is That In the Bible?" and “Search and Rescue,” and is the host of the Thursday edition of EWTN Radio's “Open Line” radio broadcast.

At the invitation of numerous bishops and priests, he has conducted hundreds of apologetics and evangelization conferences in English and Spanish at parishes, seminaries, and universities across the U.S., as well as throughout Europe, Asia, and Latin America. He is a regular presenter at Franciscan University of Steubenville’s "Defending the Faith" summer conferences.

Cardinal Edward Egan, Archbishop of New York, recently commented on Mr. Madrid's unique and effective approach to Catholic apologetics and evangelization saying, "How do you bring a friend or relative back into the Church? First you pray. Then, you follow Patrick Madrid's advice in [his book] Search and Rescue."
